# Search engines — Configure address bar search

> Configure search engines for the stagewise browser address bar. Set a default search engine and add custom engines with URL patterns.

Open **Settings → Browsing → General**.

## Default search engine

The default engine is used when you type a non-URL query into the address bar. Click the star icon next to any engine to set it as default.

## Add a custom search engine

1. Click **Add search engine**
2. Enter:
   * **Name** — Display name (e.g., "DuckDuckGo")
   * **Search URL** — URL pattern with `%s` as the query placeholder (e.g., `https://duckduckgo.com/?q=%s`)
3. Click **Save**

## Remove a search engine

Delete any engine you don't need. The default engine cannot be removed while set as default — switch the default first.
